We are deeply shocked and saddened at the most unfortunate incident that happened at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. We convey our condolences to the bereaved family members and near and dear ones of the departed soul.
Further, we express solidarity with all those who are on the streets with genuine interest for justice in heinous crime like this. We also stand in solidarity with the ‘Reclaim the Night’ movement happening in connection with the incident. We aspire for the respect and rights of all the females. Gender based violence should stop.
However, a movement like this can only succeed when it is assiduously protected from all types of biases, be it political or majoritarianism. We should remain alert so that the positive sentiments may not be hijacked or used to satisfy parochial interests of politics. At the same time a movement like this and its actions should be accommodative in nature not exclusionary.
The Calcutta High Court has instructed CBI to investigate the matter. We hope the agency will be fair in its work and name/names of culprit/culprits would be revealed within shortest possible time.
As in the line of Honorable Judges, we request the protesting medical personnel to go back to work so that the poor marginalised people who are dependent on Government health care services may not suffer any more.
